He was the son of the former Emperor Maximian and the son-in-law of Emperor Galerius.During the latter part of his reign, Maxentius became embroiled in a civil war. He formed an alliance with Maximinus II to stand against Licinius and Constantine. However, Maxentius faced defeat at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312.
