製造：高澤ろうそく

1892年（明治25年）石川県七尾市にて創業。能登半島のつけ根に位置する七尾市は昔から北前船の寄港地として栄え、各地の原料を取り寄せて作られた和ろうそくは、北前船に乗って全国各地に運ばれていきました。七尾がある能登地方は寺が多く、信仰心の厚い土地柄であったため、和ろうそくの需要も多かったそうですが現在石川県で和ろうそくを作っているのは高澤ろうそく店1軒のみです。

和ろうそくは石油など、鉱物性の油（パラフィン）を原料に使う洋ろうそくと違い、櫨や菜種油など植物性の成分を原料にして作られます。芯は和紙を棒に巻きつけた上に燈芯草というイグサ科の植物の皮を剥いだものをらせん状に巻いて作ります。和ろうそくは煤が出にくく、また炎が消えにくいのも特徴です。

和ろうそくの芯は和紙と燈芯を使用しているため、燃焼時に炭化して炎が大きくなることがあります。その際には、燃え残った黒い芯を切って、炎の大きさを調節して下さい。芯切りをお持ちでない方は、ピンセットなど金属製の燃えないもので挟みとり捨てて下さい。
