Original belt mount from a Roman Legionary’s sword belt C.300-400AD. See Forum Ancient Coins for virtually identical examples and detailed information. While decorative, these mounts were capable of protectively absorbing the impact of a sword blow. Thus, they are in fact, a form of Roman armor. This example is bronze under 1 1/2” (1.46”) height. The four holes are for the rivets which fastened it to the sword belt. Professionally conserved with the 24karat gold surface restored and mounted on an 18” gilt silver mounted polished leather neck cord for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
