HOT ! Antique Japanese Tansu Chest: Lacquered Zelkova Wood, Metal Fittings 5 drawers W12.6in/32cm

This chest of drawers features five beautifully crafted metal fittings. It\'s called a Shonai tansu and was made in what is now Yamagata Prefecture. It\'s made entirely from zelkova, and the metal fittings are distinctive. This particular one features a distinctive square handle, another hallmark of Shonai tansu.It\'s lacquered. It was made between the Meiji and Taisho periods.

The smaller drawers are very convenient for storing small items. The top right drawer has a frame inside that was made to hold a cushion for holding needles. This can be easily removed.The drawers have some dirt, scuffs, and small chips, but no major damage that would prevent them from being used.Because they have no patterns, they don\'t interfere with the interior ambiance, making them a great choice for spaces other than Japanese-style spaces.
