Our Ethiopian Opal Faceted Necklace is a luminous expression of rarity, artistry, and the extraordinary relationships that define Pax Philomena. Ethiopian opal has long been one of Jean Marie’s personal favorites—she is drawn to its living light, its intense fire, and the way each stone seems to hold its own inner universe. Because of her decades-long relationships with master stone cutters in India, Jean Marie is able to source opals of a quality and subtle beauty that are exceptionally difficult to obtain today.
Each bead in this necklace was individually selected by Jean Marie and hand-faceted by some of the finest lapidary artisans in India—craftsmen she has worked with and trusted for years. Their skill reveals the opal’s remarkable inner life: soft flashes of cream, warm honey, pale celadon green, and fleeting spectral light that shifts with every movement. Interspersed among the opals are delicate 18kt gold-plated sterling silver discs, placed intentionally to catch the light and accentuate the opals’ natural brilliance. These subtle golden accents create a gentle rhythm along the strand, enhancing its luminosity while adding warmth and refinement.
Sourced from the highlands of Ethiopia, these hydrophane opals are prized for their translucency and ethereal play of color. Throughout history, opal has been revered as a stone of inspiration, intuition, and emotional clarity. Often called the “stone of light,” it is believed to amplify creativity, encourage authenticity, and offer quiet protection to the wearer—its shifting colors symbolizing hope, transformation, and inner strength.
Stones of this clarity, size, and harmony are increasingly rare, and assembling a strand of this caliber requires both patience and access that few possess. It is only through Jean Marie’s personal presence in India, working directly alongside these artisans, that such exceptional material can be brought to life.
Designed to be worn long or doubled at the neck, the necklace carries an effortless elegance—at once understated and quietly unforgettable. It layers beautifully with other malas or stands alone as a soft, luminous statement.
This is not a piece that can be easily replicated. Each opal is entirely unique, and strands of this quality appear only rarely. Once this necklace finds its home, another of equal beauty may not be possible to create. It is a true collector’s piece—born of rare stones, masterful hands, and the personal devotion of Jean Marie herself.
Note - Please keep your Ethiopian opals away from water as it is known to steal their fire.
