A boldly primitive Windsor armchair of late 18th-century date, attributed to the West Country. Constructed from mixed timbers including ash, the chair features a single bow back with hard spindles, a shaped seat, and robust legs joined by stretchers. Its form is unapologetically vernacular — honest, tactile, and steeped in rural English tradition.
Date: Circa 1780–1800.
Origin: West Country, England.
Material: Mixed timbers, including ash.
Features: Bow back, hard spindle back, shaped seat, stretcher base
Condition: Structurally sound; age-related wear; rich patina.
Size: Back Height 80 cm x Width 45.5 cm x Depth (of seat and including sloping back) 44 cm x Seat Height 40 cm (31 1/2\" x 17 1/2\" x 17 1/4\" x 15 3/4\")
A rare survivor of provincial craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of primitive seating, Windsor-type chairs, and English country furniture. Its sculptural presence and historical integrity make it a standout piece for display or use.
