Every now and then, a coffee comes along that feels like a quiet revelation, one you don’t just taste, but feel. This Gesha from César Augusto is one of those coffees.
We first encountered this lot at the Best of Tolima auction in 2023, where dozens of exceptional coffees filled the cupping table. César’s coffee stood apart immediately. There was a clarity in the cup. A sense of presence. We didn’t yet know the farmer or his story we only knew this coffee carried intention.
That clarity made sense once we met César Augusto.
César purchased his farm in the Los Mangos district of Tolima in 1995, beginning with just 1,000 coffee trees and little infrastructure. Over nearly three decades, through patience and persistence, he’s quietly built a refined operation introducing new systems, improving processing, and elevating quality season after season. What defines César’s work isn’t machinery or scale it’s restraint.
This Gesha undergoes a carefully extended fermentation, paced across multiple days to allow flavor to unfold naturally. Harvested cherries rest before fermentation, move through staged de-pulping and sealed resting periods, and dry slowly before a final phase of stabilization. There is no rushing only intention, and trust in the coffee.
In the cup, that patience reveals itself in fruit forward, jasmine-like florals, clean apricot tones, and a silky, tea-like structure. This coffee is delicate and precise, with a gentle brightness reminiscent of white peach or nectarine. The finish lingers softly, composed of fruit and raw honey.
Winning Best of Tolima didn’t just bring this coffee to us it brought César’s story with it. We’re proud to share this lot not only for its beauty in the cup, but for the decades of quiet dedication behind it.
