Before the devastating fires, our kūpuna (elders) would gather at the Baldwin Home of Front St. to weave plumeria lei, raising money for scholarships for Lahainaluna High School Seniors. How It’s Better Than Traditional Nylon

Traditional nylon is a plastic fabric made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource. Its production is a harsh process that requires a lot of energy and water and releases harmful greenhouse gases. The biggest problem, though, is what happens at the end of its life: it\'s not biodegradable, so it can sit in landfills for centuries.

ECONYL® flips this on its head. It’s a 100% regenerated nylon made from rescued waste, like discarded fishing nets that would otherwise pollute our oceans and landfills. Through an innovative and non-toxic process, this waste is broken down to its purest form and then rebuilt into a high quality fiber. This means we are actively cleaning up the planet and giving new life to materials that would have been a major environmental burden.

This regenerative process is a game changer. By using ECONYL®, we reduce the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% and save tons of crude oil from being extracted.
