A breathtaking example of late 19th-century luxury, this 14k solid gold pendant watch features exquisite hand-painted enamel miniatures on both the front and back, c. 1880s.
Designed as a Lapel Watch, it remains paired with its original matching high-carat gold bow brooch- a rare find for collectors, as these sets are frequently separated over time.
The watch is a masterpiece of the \"Romantic Revival\" style. The front features a vibrant hand-painted scene depicting a cherub (Cupid) with a bird, set against a pastoral background. The back features a vibrant floral enamel composition.
A majestic high-carat gold sculptural bow brooch, allowing the watch to be worn as a decorative lapel piece.
Unlike common porcelain dials of the era, this watch features a luxury metal dial: hand-engraved silver or silver-toned metal with a radial guilloché pattern. A stunning raised gold-washed floral wreath at the centre. A decorative gold-accented scalloped border around the perimeter. Classic black Roman numerals with slender, blued-steel or dark-finished hands.
Interior dust cover engraved with \"Mr. Barry London\" and \"Cilindro\" (Cylinder movement). \"Cilindro\" (Cylinder Escapement) refers to the type of internal movement. Cylinder movements were very common in the late 1800s. They are thinner than \"lever\" movements, allowing for the dainty, elegant profile of your watch, but they are more delicate and difficult to repair by modern standards.Serial Numbers: \"No 64 701\" and \"25342/15\" are unique identifiers used by the manufacturer for production records.
Very good antique condition - the central hand-painted miniatures are in excellent condition with no damage to the main artwork. There is minimal, superficial loss to the black enamel ornamental border around the edges on one side of the case. The watch is currently non-running and requires professional servicing. It includes its original winding key. The glass (crystal) is loose and shows age-related scratches/micro-chips; it may require re-fitting or replacement.
Hallmarks - hallmarked 14k for gold purity at the inner side of the case. Also, hallmarks are present at the back side of the bow and bow\'s pin (unreadable).
