Handmade Glass Tray Featuring Antique Dennison Witch Crepe Panel

This remarkable piece showcases an authentic Dennison Manufacturing Co. crepe paper panel, one of the most iconic and elusive motifs in early American Halloween decoration — the witch in silhouette.

Dennison, established in 1844, was the premier American manufacturer of decorative paper goods. By the early 20th century, their Halloween imagery — witches, black cats, jack-o’-lanterns, and owls — helped define the holiday’s visual language. Most pieces, printed on delicate crepe paper, were meant for temporary festivity and rarely survived. As such, original Dennison panels in good condition are considered exceptionally scarce today.

This example presents a dramatic black witch figure in flowing robes and pointed hat, holding a wand aloft amidst swirling silver clouds and stars against a vivid orange background. It captures the theatrical, mystical aesthetic for which Dennison is celebrated.

To preserve the fragile paper, the panel has been carefully mounted beneath glass within a custom handmade frame of solid black wood. Functional artistry elevates the display: solid brass handles transform the piece into a tray, allowing it to serve as both a historic collectible and a usable design object.
