Detailed information on Colombian Gesha

There are over 100 different varietals of Arabica coffee, each with a unique flavor profile and among the most exotic is the Gesha variety.  This bean was discovered in the Gori Gesha Forest in southwestern Ethiopia in the 1930s and the seeds were brought across the Atlantic Ocean to be cultivated in other high-altitude coffee growing regions such as Central and South America beginning in the 1950s.  Since its discovery, this unique bean has grown in popularity and is highly sought after among coffee connoisseurs for its exquisite taste.  Despite the increasing demand for Gesha coffee, the coffee trees are naturally low-yielding fruit plants, are more susceptible to Coffee Berry Disease (a fungal infection) as well as prone to pests, which make them harder to maintain and costly to grow compared to other Arabica varieties that yield more coffee cherries.

The Art of the Bean and Leaf proudly offers Gesha coffee beans, which we procured from a 26-hectare estate farm in the Villamaria municipality, Vereda San Julian area in the Caldas department of Colombia.  The farm is operated by two friends who are astutely focused on best cultivation, sustainability and solid environmental practices.  At an elevation over 6,000 feet above sea level, the farm is situated in a region identified by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as a World Heritage Site, “Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia,” in 2011.

The Art of the Bean and Leaf is proud to roast this coveted coffee bean at a light roast.  We invite you to try this amazingly flavorful Colombian Gesha coffee which we refer to as “the Gesha Enchantress” for you will be mesmerized by its extraordinary taste hinting notes of jasmine, lemongrass and rose.  Be prepared to be ENCHANTED!
